Mini Cooper Repair Question

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea what a reasonable repair cost would be for replacing the cooling thrmostat on a new mini cooper?

BMW have quoted £200 which seems a bit steep but I'm not sure.

Buy one from a motor factors for around £10 and fit it yourself. Simples.

Cheers, lets imagine for a minute though that its not actually my car and the owner knows about as much on cars as I do on prehistoric songwriting...and they want a professional to do it? ;o) £200 - too much or alright?

Sounds about right for BMW, if not a little steep. Advise maybe going down the mobile mechanic/independant route for a lesser cost.

Good stuff, that was what I was thinking...darn BMW!!!

I think she wants them to do it though so I guess that means another £200 in BMW's coffers then.

Obviously we're talking totally different engines here, but a pattern thermostat for my wifes Vectra was £80 from my local motor factors, it comes with the housing as a complete unit. Not sure of the design on your Mini, but factor in main dealer hourly rates along with 3 litres of anti-freeze and the price is a bit more understandable if unpalatable.

I put a new one on my*recently sold* Punto for about £15. Easy to do. £200 is just crazy.

The thermostat for an Alfa is about £45 and takes about an hour.

As said earlier, get another garage to fit it or do it yourself. BMW labour prices will be double an indy's and it's not exactly a hard job.
