Hi

I have a "classic" car. I like it. It might be hard to find another one at a price to suit me.

I might be going away for 3 - 4 years. Would you sell? I have a garage and a brother who can run it round the block and maintain it.

Thoughts please!

I would hang on to it providing it can be looked after properly.....its not going to depreciate.

Depends on the car, how much it was worth and whether the money would be needed over the next 3-4 years.

My definition of a classic car may differ greatly from yours or anyone else's. There are only a few cars that I would never sell should I be fortunate enough to own one.

Keep it. I was in the same position and I sold. Regretted it ever since. I had a Renault 5 Mark 1 Turbo No. 1099.

Sell it, buy lube with the money. Lube = currency in some places. Or you could keep it, and park it in an underground car park in London, then collect all the letters from the DVLA you will receive, because pikeys are trying to "claim" your "abandoned" car.

pretty much comes down to ..

a) do you want to keep it for the future?
b) can you afford the storage costs?

there's a few place in Surrey that charge about £80 per month to garage it, take it for a run occasionally. i wouldn't trust my sister with it!

Hi

Very funny! Going away for a few years = prison. I should have thought of that. Made me laugh. Hong Kong actually!

I think I will keep. Storage costs are not high cos will be in my garage.

Tks for the thoughts.

Definitely keep it. I'd keep my 205 if I was going away, sell the Elise and the Octavia, just not as special to me.

I recently got my Austin A35 out of the garage where I stored it 10 years ago.
If you like the car, no matter what it is, then keep - simple.

If you like it then keep it. The only thing is don't store it in your garage for 4 years. You will just come back to find it not in the condition you left it and have a whole load of problems. You want to get it stored properly in a dehumidified storage warehouse where they will also put in on a rolling road and run it upto temperature every couple of months.

My TVR is only in storage for the winter and I've put it in dehumidified storage. If you really want to keep the car then you will want to keep it in the condition it is in now and a grand a year really is nothing.
