Features from old cars that are no longer required

Bit of an odd one here i know, but ive been asked to compile a list of Car parts/features that are no longer required due to technology advances.

So bits you had on old cars, which have now been replaced by a computer or motor!!!

Anything appreciated, i am struggling,

Starter Motors - (used to be wound by hand)

Seems the case - at least here in Munich.

Fuel gauge (replaced by breakdown cover & mobile phone)

Now cars are using 'tyre weld'.

Cruise Control.

Possibly the most useless invention known to man. Is it really that difficult to keep you right foot slightly depressed on the accelerator pedal?

(yes, I know that cruise control is a feature on modern cars too - just what I need on my RS4)

Having your leg in a contant state of tension is very uncomfortable for long journeys. Nothing wrong with cruise, I use it all the time in the LS.

- Aerial, most are now hidden, built into the car somewhere.
- Door buttons and slot for opening with a key, remote central locking has replaced.
- Wing mirrors and wing mounted indicator repeaters, replaced by combined door mirrors with integral indicators.

Yes! My 911 doesn't have a dipstick (other than the one driving it of course) and it takes 5 minutes to check the oil level. Bloody annoyance.

Cruise control is great, It's not hard to keep your foot in a fixed position no. But I loved having it on my old Corsa.

And how are sidelights not required? What happens when a headlight bulb pops? Should one flick on there fog lights?

Unless you drive in London, in which case pretty much every black/mincab driver thinks it perfectly adequate to drive around at night with sidelights only.

If they weren't on the car then they wouldn't have any lights at all.
