I'm currently carless and hence have cancelled my policy and have been sent proof of NCB. As it's 12 years NCB it's quite valuable to me when I come to insure the next vehicle. How long will it remain valid for as I understand that after a certain period has elapsed the NCB becomes void?

TIA

I think it's usually a year, although it might vary by insurer.

2 years is the norm, I understand. I've lost a 5 years NCB as a result for a second car. Hard to see how they justify it - oh my mistake they don't do they - they just do it.

^^^^^^ That's what I think too. Some will allow 2 years.

My wife and I are in the same situation, two drivers with long standing NCB allowances but suddenly only one car. We were advised the limit was 2 years before you lose the NCB discount, so we just change the main driver each year - one year its her, the next it's me! Worked so far (3 years)

Cheers guys. I'll have to keep it in mind. When you price it up it's amazing how much my NCB is worth on relatively high group cars.
