Random rant; that's what this forum's about right?

Sort of following up from the most beautiful estate car thread, I do love my estates, especially quick ones.

But I cannot, just cannot, understand the market for this:

Crap rant i know. But does anyone out there actually want a £60k diesel estate?

"Cancelled order"? Looking at the spec, that must have been ordered as a wind-up. I hope they took a massive deposit.

I'll have it when depreciation drops it to about £12K.

Great looking and equipped car. Quick too for what it is.

Only difference to mine is I don't have rear heated seats or the voice control.
Great car but amazing value when 3 years old.

Wow, that's quite a bit of cash for a diesel estate.

Wonder if anyone will buy it..

At £500 off list with all the kit, some of which is almost valueless to anyone not ticking the box, no chance.

I guess that's just an opening gambit - but the lead-time on that car would probably be at least 12 weeks, and there might be someone prepared to pay to get to the front of the queue.

In it's defence it has

Fineline Anthracite Wood

Not any old anthracite wood, but fine anthracite wood. It's like M&S doing Anthracite wood. So there, well worth the £60 000.

Isn't wood that has turned to anthracite actually a piece of Welsh coal? Hmmm...

Seriously though, imagine who will buy that 10 years down the line at auction when everyhing has gone wrong electronically. Who knows though, by that time your bit of fine Welsh coal might have turned into a bit of a fine diamond and you can sell it for 100 billion dollars.

On the other hand £60k will get you this.

tuned to 700bhp I think it is a better buy. Apart from fuel consumption.

Ad says it'll average 44 to the gallon.
Whoop-de-doo.
It'll also average about £1500 a month in depreciation.

When you reckon you can buy a brand new BMW 520d SE Touring for just £31,815 the car in the ad' does look a tad pricey!!

A year or so ago you could buy low mileage 6-month old ex-management 535d MSport Tourings from main dealers for £32k. While the F10 5-series is new, I can't see it losing nearly 50% of its value in 6 months, but it's not going to be a depreciation-beater laugh

Ruddy hell, I hope whoever buys it is prepared to lose a lot of cash.

The fact it's a cancelled order pretty much sums it up- even the chap who specced it realised how ludicrous it would be.

Mind you, the 35d engine has now surpassed the 35i in performance as well as economy, so the fact it's a diesel is offset by the fact the petrol isn't any quicker.
