Hi guys,

Just picked up a 57 plate black passat, 2.0 tdi.
Nice car, with a few gadgets, but I hadn't even used up a tank of diesel before the problems began.
The first thing to go was the parking sensors, which crackled, the warbled, then stopped completely, the switch just flashes now, and also tends to stay on all the time. The cruise control just got an exclamation mark, and the parrot CK3100 just said "Goodbye" which I thought was appropriate.

WTF is going on?

The motor company tell me to contact the warranty, the warranty company tell me to contact a dealership.

What would you guys do?

Go back and complain, threaten to reject the car. It shouldn't have those problems, although they probably look minor on the surface chances are its been badly looked after and they are hiding more severe problems.

I can reject the car?

I like the car, and don't want to part with it, I just want these defects fixed.

This seems to be happening alot lately! But it seems far simpler than the merc with hood problem.

Essentially the problem is the dealers. You have noticed the faults nice and quickly. There should be no problem. The only caveat to watch is dealers are not liable for fair wear and tear. However this one seems pretty cut and dry in that a 57 plate should be faultless and any known faults should have been pointed out to you.

I'll review the warranty doco.
I'll take the car to a local vw garage
If they can fix all, via the 3rd party warranty then all is good.
If they fill the pdc, but not the parrot, I'll take it to the dealer, and enforce my consumer rights

The car was returned on Monday (last week)
The selling dealer then brought the car to a VW dealer on Thursday.

VW fixed the PDC
VW didn't fix the intermittent cruise control issue, they just "reset" something
The Parrot kit still isn't fixed
VW say the rear noise isn't from the bearings, they say the tires are unevenly warn, and should be replaced. Selling dealer is refusing to replace them.

Should I demand my money back, or continue with this car?

Depends, are you otherwise happy with it? Did you get it for a good price?

With the Parrot I'd be tempted just to pull it out all together, I'm not a fan of aftermarket Bluetooth kits.

Tyres obviously need replacing. You could try seeing if they will contribute towards the cost?

No grounds for a refund.

You should replace the tyres, and see if it fixes the noise. If it does all well and good, but as tyres are a consumable you will just have to swallow the cost.

If it does not fix the noise you have grounds to go back to dealer and ask him to fix it. He could still refuse if he feels the fault does not make the car unfit for purpose, then you have to go legal to find out who is right.
If he does try to fix the noise, and cannot fix it after two attempts, and if the fault is considered to make the car unfit for purpose, bearing in mind age/mileage and price paid, then you have grounds to seek a refund.

Parrot Kit, not sure need to know more detail, but unlikely to have any legal recourse.

I have known a few cars to have the noise you describe because of tyres. A new set/pair has solved it several times for me.
