Just a quick heads up, the Tom Tom car kit for iPhone is down from 100 quid at Argos. Still got to buy the app which is pricey, but it's a bit more reasonable at this price I suppose.

AFAIK this isn't compatible with the iPhone4. Just a heads up for anyone thinking of trying it. A friend bought this, and then upgraded to iPhone4.

Oh, and there are always offers on itunes vouchers, clintons and morrisons normally have deals on them, which would make the software a bit cheaper. Hotukdeals.com normally have them listed.

Inspired by this thread I went onto the Argos site and bagged a cheap printer. One of those copier / scanner printer jobbies and wireless too. For £25.

It is compatible with the iPhone 4. You just need a little adapter. I used the smooth side of Velcro. Tomtom also do a free adapter too. I speak from experience that it does work!

But ridiculously the tom tom adaptor doesn't have dock connector passthrough so if your car stereo is ipod compatible (which many are these days), it won't work. Therefore it's good in one respect, but absolutely mindbendingly stupid and crap in another by rendering your car's ipod interface useless.

Why did they bother? furious

But if you have a bluetooth stereo, then it works perfectly, and even attenuates the music to give you directions.

it has however got an aux out on it. so is still compatible with a lot of stereo's, just not to their full capability. Its a compromise yes, but it works ok in reality.

and yes, it most definitely works with the ip4. ive been using mine since the ip4 release.

The adapter quoted above is the proper one, but before tomtom admitted it was compatible you could do a home made jobby with velcro. Its all to do with a switch on the hinge of the dock connector. It switches on the device when the iphone is locked into place but because the ip4 is thinner than 3g/s it needs the extra adapter to fill the space.

It should also be noted that the tomtom kit doesn't work with any case on the phone as it is very size specific. And once the adapter is put into place it will no longer work with an iphone 3g/s.

Can you access and control the ipod library via the car's interface?

Happily, you get to do all that on the phone's interface, which is what it was designed for. The one in my Elise where you have to do it all on the stereo is pain in bloody arse.

That's why they have multitasking now. And you can set up playlists.

Thanks to all for the info.

May prove a bit of a pain having to remove the case though everytime you use it.

Update: car kit collected but is old stock, hence the discount.

So, no adaptor included for ip4 but rung Tom Tom and they're sending one out to me FOC.

Great service me thinks.
