As the above says really, looking for a bit of a repmobile, diesel, less than 50k on the clock for around 7k max.

The only thing i can see so far is a Vectra. Not into small hatchbacks like focus or golf. Will take saloon/family hatch or estate.

Must be newer than 2004/2005 ish.

Any ideas?

The Alfa 156 would be the route I'd go down every time.

I'm looking for something similar myself but in an estate guise, I have narrowed the search down to saab 9-3, volvo V70 (but would be probably around 03 plate for that sort of money), Alfa 159 if I can find one, and the wild card the mazda 6.

I am avoiding the ford diesel 2.0l units as several people at work with both mondeos and a jag have had injector problems, so this rules out volvo v50's.

I currently have a 156 which has been fine but I need a bigger load area, my idea choice would be the 159

What sort of mileage are you planning on covering? If you aren't wedded to DERV, then a Subaru Legacy would always feature in my top three suggestion of bomb proof mile munchers.

You need to google pulsating clutch pedal on the Mazda 6 diesel..

This generally affects all CR diesels... Other general probs with modern dieselds are DPFs and DMFs..

If you want to avoid these probs then the pre 2005 passats 1.9tdi's are meant to be a safe bet..

Vectra 1.9CDTI 8v (120hp). Avoid the 150hp 16v, they have issues.

Mondeo diesel or a Passat diesel would be my choices.

For £7k and that mileage limit, you would be looking at the previous model Passat, but that's not such a bad thing:

Yes, I know it's done 54k, but that looks a great buy.

Umm so lets see, you want low miles AND diesel on a smallish budget and then want it to be quite new too. On top of that you rule out a large percentage of vehicles straight off and also require it to be saloon or estate for a family?

Nothing like a challenge then!! biggrin

I went to a CMAX from a Mondeo. The Mondy had already had new rear subframe, new injectors, new DMF, clutch and starter in the 2 1/2 years I'd owned it, and the power steering pump was on it's way out when I traded it, the fuel pump wasnt far behind it.

The 2.0 CMAX is the PSA engine, slightly higher output than the Mondeo one, albeit a heavier car. It's wider than the Mondeo, and has better carrying capacity but is a shorter car (just)

You'd be able to get a low miles one under budget, with an engine that only really leaks a little bit. I guess the problem would be that it's not rep'tastic. And its a CMAX
