Young lad at work considering one as he is only 24, has no ncd of his own, now has a 90 mile round trip to work. The skoda is quoting 90 mpg, its this really achievable? Are they ok to drive? Never going to set the earth alight but he its coming from his mums 60 bhp polo.

Drive the deal has them at under 12k so seems a decent price if you must have a new motor.....

I'm not sure about 90mpg, I think it's more like 75mpg.

The problem is that to get close to the quoted MPG you have to drive it very gently. If the guy is happy to drive economically and not have any fun, then it might work out for him.

Must be one of the cheapest most economical cars you can buy, though I still couldn't see myself forking out £12k for one. £6k on a Fiesta diesel and an extra £10 a week on fuel would be the way I would go.

yep but at 24 a "new car" is shiny/new/sexy

I've actually tried pointing out that the same cash buys an MX5 and pays the fuel bill biggrin

If he's not dead set on new but likes the economy and isn't worried about speed might be worth looking into the older Lupo/Polo 3 cylinder diesels....have been told they're actually pretty good but no experience myself.

Or Audi A2. All of them are good for 70+mpg on a run.
