I've been spending more time than usual wandering through the classifieds of late and have found what I think are quite good value cars

Mk 5 Golf R32
http://pistonheads.com/sales/2253690.htm

Nissan 350z (313 bhp)
http://pistonheads.com/sales/2164029.htm

BMW M3 (E90)
http://pistonheads.com/sales/2496648.htm

The common thread between them is a large petrol engined cars. So are these cars good value or on a rocky slope down in terms of value. Will the continued rise in fuel prices keep pushing the price of these cars down?

What cars are at the bottom of their depreciation curve at the moment?

I think your idea of "bargain" is a bit different to mine!
BMW E39 M5's are down to around £7k
RX-*'s can be had for around £3.5k

The M3 and 350Z's you post have got a long way to drop in terms of depreciation in the next 5 years, especially if the fuel prices stay high.

E90 M3's will keep getting lower and lower they'll be the performance car baragain of the decade in about 4-5 years just look at how the E46's dropped in price.

Granted, they aren't 'cheap' cars. However with the R32 in particular they are in the same ball park as a early Mk6 GTI, and the M3 was a £55k from new.

Not bad value, but not great.

I bought my 2008 313 350z 1 year ago with only 18k miles for £17k, also from a Nissan dealer.

There's a e92 M3 with 28k miles from a BMW dealer, so not a dodgy private sale with no warranty for the sam price.

I found this the other day, 500 bhp 6.0 supercharged V8 for £18k. Its making me really miss my old Monaro!

Congrats wink

That's the thing that's put me off the M3 when I've been tyre kicking of late. I think the E46 CS is quite good value at the moment.

Surely this must be up there. E55 AMG

Often tested at over 500bhp despite MB suggesting less. Over 500lb of torque.

ETA : poor advert, wouldn't buy that one, but you get the idea!

Look at their predecessors.

£8k for an early (UK) 350Z:

A generation older 300ZXTT UK manual for £2.5k:

£6.5k for a mkiv R32:

£1.6k for a mkiii VR6:

E46 M3 for £8.5k:

E36 M3 EVO for £4.2:

I doubt any of your original cars are anywhere near their floor. Things like NSX's are going up though.
I doubt they've hit the floor either, but they have taken one hell of a whack already, and if you are happy to write off a smaller loss over the next 3 years of the cars life they, to me, are quite good value.

I think an E36 M3 if it's kept original and well maintained will never dip below 4K and may well start to rise in price in the next 2-3 years. I remember e30 M3s fetching £6K a few years ago - try finding one for that price now.

350zs will end up at sub £2K like 300ZXs and 200SXs.

But it depends how long you want to keep them and how much you expect to lose.

A VR6 MKIV Golf can be had for £1000 and under and an E36 M3 has been as low as £2k.

+1, M6's are incredibly good value at the moment. I can't see them dropping much further in price.
