This is purely a hypothetical situation, but let's assume you have about £25k to spend on a reasonably quick car, and you want a hatchback as there is onyl your partner and you. Which of the following would you go for, and have i missed any off the list
Focus rs mk2

Megane rs250

Leon Cupra

Golf Gti

For me, i would search out a focus rs, but what about everyone else?

Why not buy a real sports car if that's the case?

Assuming that you're limited to having one of them new then the Golf. It's on a par with all of them as a drivers car, or near enough, while being well built, stylish, practical, well thought out and will be worth the most in three years time.

So if there's only 2 of you - why waste so much money on a hatchback??

You might make some valid points, not sure on the well built bit though (unless they have improved) and in my opinion very far from stylish.

The most honest answer is of course none of the above. Either a decent deposit on a house or flat or £25,000 towards the negative equity you have/will soon have

The Leon will produce a solid 300bhp on a remap alone, and up to 400 with a few bolt on mods. But it's lacking in aural pleasure & gives very little feedback to the driver.

Golf will struggle to make 260bhp on a remap. The components used in the Cupra engine are IIRC similar (think it's only the intercooler that differs) or indeed the same as the Ed 30 Golf, TTS & S3.

That's IF tuning is your bag, baby.

I'd go for an R32 smile Scrub that, Imprezza WRX, or STi if in budget.

Your view on stylish is comically different to most peoples though smile

I personally don't really like the image/styling of the Golf, however, you have to admit that it always fits in to ever social situation. It has that rare quality which fews cars manage of never looking out of place. A Golf will blend in in some of the countries more ropey areas while still looking good outside a big country pile.

If it has to be one of those three, then I'd take the Leon, in bright yellow please.

For two people, though, I'd spend a lot less than £25K and buy something smaller. Perhaps a MiTo Quadrifoglio or a Panda 100Hp. Assuming it has to be a traditional hatchback.

The reasoning behind the hatchback, is the ability to get mountainbikes in the car for going away at weekends, and or, mrs chav's usual amount of bags for our holidays. Otherwise, i would go for an elise or cayman/boxster
