Just after some opinions on the below motor, my dad is off to look at it tommorow and was wondering if there is anything specific he should be worried about.

I'd check for rust especially around the wheel arches, seems to be the main issue with Mercedes cars built around that period.

Very base spec, no climate control (it has AC, not digital climate)

Personally I don't really see the appeal, my Dad bought this shape new and it wasn't a particularly great steer

Worn control arm / control arm bushes. Very common in the W203s. Easy to spot, car is crashy over rough surfaces.

Rust might be a problem too but not as bad as on a W210 E Class - check around the boot lock.

Might have a slightly whiny supercharger but this is nothing to worry about - "they all do that".

The car is based on the M111 engine which is a but less refined than the Twinpulse engines introduced later but not a bad car at all.

To be honest i don't know why he is buying it as he already has a Volvo C30 2.0d which hes going to run alongside it.

Cheers for that, do you know when the cambelt should be changed?

No cam belt fitted, mercedes use timing chains. 1 thing to check is the multi-plug under the small engine cover on the front of the engine. It is for the cam adjuster magnet which can leak and let engine oil into the engine wiring loom and is costly to repair

Not much room in the back.

Try asking a six-footer to sit in the rear seats.

Odd really, as most Germans seem to be quite tall.

True, the A-Class has more room in the back than these do.
