Inspired by the "big engine but you wouldn't know it" thread ...

what single model has the widest range - original factory as opposed to after fit behemoth engines - in terms of engine size and / or power?

Best I could think of as an example was the old Capri, available with a 1296cc 4 up to a 3 ltr V6.

The B5.5 Passat engine range was 1.6 4 cylinder up to a 4.0 W8. Probably not the widest range, but up there surely?

Well A6's biggest engine is 2.5 times the size and 3.5 times the power of the smallest one. Can that really not be bettered?

The Rover 75 manages 1.8 up to 4.6, which is a slightly bigger proportional difference in capacity; but can't get close power-wise.

The current C-class goes from a 1.6 (I think) up to a 6.2, which is 3.9 times the size.

ETA: The C-class does fairly well in the power stakes too, from 137bhp up to 450bhp, which is 3.4 times. Doesn't quite beat the Audi, though.

Surely it must be something American with a big block engine - 289ci up to 427ci?? That's about 3.5 litres isn't it?

I can think of loads that have a variation of 6 cyclinders.

S-class: V6 to V12
SL: V6 to V12
5-series: S4 to V10
DB7: S6 to V12
a6: S4 to V10

I can't think of any higher tha 6.
