There's no denying it's a good car and one of legend but, £12k? Seriously?

Not for me but I'm sure someone will. I can't see this being much of an investment as the price is already 'premium'

I can think of loads of cars I'd rather have at £12K

There can only be literally a handful of these left in the world at this mileage and condition - is it worth £12k? Not sure, but if you wanted to add to a collection of class leading cars, then this would be the best out there I guess.

The sort of thing you may see in a motor museum in another 30 years.

What price would you lot put this up for?

Having seen a R5GTT sell for £6k and an Audi powered one sell for £10k, I can believe someone will dig that deep. Not me though, thats for sure.

Depends how much you dreamt of it when you were young and how rich you are now to be able to afford getting ripped in order to fulfil that dream.

I'm sure it will sell at the £10k mark.

Would need to be 1 owner and less than 5k miles to command that sort of price.

You could rebuild one to that standard for much less than £12k.

That's lovely. I really like 205s but £12k is a lot of money and the problem with cars like this is that their value is in their condition and mileage so to maitain the value, you can't use it other than a quick tootle occasionally.

Look at the prices of older Fords... If kept concourse and low mileage then I'm sure it would go up in value.

But would I? No.

I don't get having cars as investments. They're there to be driven imo.

3 owners, 30k miles.

Might be worth £6k to the right kind of pervert - but no more than that.

It has also been for sale at that price for quite a while. Have a look at some others over the last year or so on another thread - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The only way to keep an example like this worth any money would be too keep it ultra clean and low mileage which would take out the fun of owning it. Its a car that WANTS to be driven.
Also, having owned one of these before, they are not a fan of being sat in a garge collecting dust. They need to be driven to keep them in good order. The brakes seize very quickly and the idle will hunt if not driven very often.

Would be more fun and much, much cheaper to restore one to this kind of condition.

It is noteworthy though. I consider my H-plate R21 low at 34k.

TBH I think £12k is alright for that. I won't be buying it, but I can see the attraction. A car someone wanted in their youth but couldn't afford, but now can. Plus it's a great example not a knackered shed that will need constant work. There's lots worse ways to spend £12k than on a legendary hatch.

It's a rare original minter of an iconic motor. That's a 10k car and will only go up in value.

I think I'd struggle to spend £12k on that one, when you could have this one for only a little more than half the cash:
