I bought a Peugeot 406 90 hdi with 217,000 on the clock. I did 17,000 miles in it, and apart from a cambelt change and service, nothing went wrong - apart from electric window switch, 25 quid from scrappy. Then sold it for what I paid for it.

I also bought a 1998 Mercedes S320 with 507,000 miles on the clock!! It ran perfectly, but it soon became apparant that not all was well when I went to brake one day and it skidded. Turns out the TC/ABS module was broken, and after a big leak on the auto box was discovered, I sold it to a Merc trader for a small profit - only paid 500 in the first place. Was testament to Merc build quality though.

I had a Honda Ascot (posh Accord) with just under 400,000km on the clock. Only thing that didn't work was the blower motor

Mitsubishi spacewagon diesel, had 185k on it, I took it to 247k, gave it to my brother for his band, he sold it on at 314k. Body, was a bit ratty at that point but mechanically a1.
Still had original turbo, and bar glow plugs and filters, a few bushings, and a taste for alternators every 20k, was fine.

Sold my first car at 16,000 miles (bought at 12,000).

Sold my second car at 4,000 miles.

Sold my third car at 3,000 miles.

Sold my fourth car at 4,000 miles.

Current car is on 2,600 miles and no intentions to sell yet!

Have use of a company vehicle, so my car only gets used at weekends and sometimes during the weekday evenings.

Of course, someone has got to take the hit on the depreciation. Luckily in my favour, the numbers have fallen into place quite well every time. Not sure I will have the same luck in the future.

These seem to go on for ever. I had a 325 TDS touring new in 1996 did 100k in three years and sold it to my parents, they got rid of it last year with 275,000 on the clock and it still drove well.

Every Saab 900 (various from 1989-1993) I have owned had done well over 100k miles when I bought them. I can honestly say that with the regular oil changes and servicing I never had so much as a flat battery in 10s pf thousands of miles. The highest mileage one was around 190k when I sold it, but there are good examples of these knockin about well over 250k miles. superb cars with amazing longevity if looked after reasonably well

I dread to think... Cars haven't been relatively expensive or premium, but I've enjoyed it whilst I can... Just out of interest, in order of appearance...

'51 Fiat Punto Mk2 1.2 8v
'58 Renault Twingo GT 1.2 Turbo
'09 Renault Twingo 133 Renault Sport
'59 Renault Clio Dynamique
'60 Renault Megane Coupe

Not sure if you can see a pattern emerging... smile

Apologies for off-topic.
New Megane Coupe is nice

I bought my XJ8 with 147k on it and twelve months later it's on 152k (I only drive weekends really). All its cost me is a service and a new thermostat.

I've just bought a Boxster S as a stablemate to it, and while there's less than 12 months age difference between the two cars, the Pork has only done 42k.

My old Mondeo had 173,000 miles on it when I got it. Dodgy sensor, replaced FOC at the dealer, was the only issue. Think it was nudging 180k when I slightly crashed it badly, a shame as it wasn't ready to die yet.
