Is there a list somewhere showing which speed cameras are working?

If not, does any one know if the speed camera in Midfield Way, Orpington is working?

Cheers

No idea ,so how fast were you going when you passed camera ?

If you get "the letter" in 2 weeks bad luck

If you dont get "the letter" you got away with it ,not a lot you can do about it now tongue out

35mpg.

I read on the internet that most cameras are calibrated to allow a margin of mpph x 2 + 2 before they flash. Also, the accuracy of speedos usually allows a margin too.

I fretting because I'm still in my two years driving probation.

Don't worry, they don't measure your fuel consumption. It's only the speed you need to worry about.

This is entirely at the discretion of the speed enforcement in that area. Some allow large margins (typically speed +10% +2mph) but others are more hard line and any amount is speeding is bad and even if its just a little tough or offer a speed awareness course.

Generally I think the margins of +10%+2 is fair as it means you must be doing a fair bit over to get caught (35 in a 30, 80 in 70 etc) and its unlikely to be a momentary lapse or distraction and I think this is the reason they're commonly used as there is no arguing your way out of it.

Wait for an NIP. Don't believe anything you read on the internet. Your maths above are a bit off. You can be done for speeding 1mph above the limit. Many digital speedos work at 2-3mph over the real road speed as a constant.

Any data out there is possibly out of date anyway.

i.e. Camera X may not be working now, but they may turn it on tomorrow. Do you really want to take that chance?.......

Assume they're all working and you won't go far wrong (unless you still speed through them of course biggrin)

If I was indeed going 35mph in a 30 zone is there a way I can appeal?

Never do more than 30mph in a 30mph zone, it's not worth it.

Wait till you're out in NSL and get caught doing 100mph+ like a man.

i assume this was a gatso, and it flashed? if so, prepare for the worst, though the ticket is invalid if received after 14 days of the date of offence, i think

i didn't know the 10%+2mph was regional, or at specific forces discretion! that's food for thought, might lower the cruise from now on

It's a *guideline* so there's no legal obligation to adhere to it, most forces I would think do so (avoids all the *I was only just over the limit* claims).

If someone was caught at 35, their speedo (some more accurate than others, blah blah blah) was probably somewhere around 40mph so probably knew (if they looked at their speedo) that they were exceeding the limit.

Mythbusters tested the 170mph claim and it was found to be true but only because our legal system demands 2 photos, it didn't have time to take the second picture. Not sure if this is still valid for the digital ones...
