What car for my parents?
Discussion
Right then. My Gran, at the tender old age of 86, has decided to give up driving as she only does 30 miles per week and her car's costing £750 per year to insure. This leaves our household with my BMW (which no one else is allowed to drive), Dad's broken Corsa and my Mum's Mk2 Tigra (only two seats); the plan is to sell the Peugeot, Corsa and Tigra and put all the money together and buy one car, as that's basically all that gets used these days anyway.
Based on what I think the rock bottom value of each car is I believe this should amount to at least £8000, so here are the pre-requisites.
Any other suggestions would be welcomed. I get quite a big say in this as she's leaving it up to me to look for a car with her having the final word, and I don't want her in an Astra/Megane/307 CC, not because they're bad cars but because I'd feel sorry for my Dad moping around in something that's so overwhelmingly style over substance.
Thanks in advance.

- Up to £8000, no extra money will be put towards this, although I appreciate that most cars have room for haggling from their listed value.
- MUST be a convertible.
- MUST have four seats.
- MUST have leather seats (my Gran doesn't like cloth).
- Insurance is a non-issue.
- My Dad will have to drive it too, so it needs to be a convertible that is both manly and lady like.
- Performance is a non-issue.
- No more than 60000 miles, my Mum won't budge on that.
- No older than 2004, again Mum won't budge.
- This'll sound daft, but ideally being sold by a trader/dealer so that we can p/ex the Corsa. I think it'll be nigh on impossible to sell privately.
- Mum wants more than 30mpg, but her commute is a steady 10 mile slog up a traffic free part of the A5. 30mpg would be doable in mine, so it's no great shakes really.

E class Merc. Might be a bit on the old side.
Loads of convertible C class for that budget though - even me and another sizeable bloke were comfortable in the back for an hour.

Cheers doogz. The 9-3 is currently my favourite, as they're the best priced and I'm a fan of Saabs.
I shouldn't imagine the interior would be any more flimsy than her current Tigra, could it? I'd try to get her into an Aero, as there's little/no difference in fuel economy and they can all be picked up for a fair price. I should imagine an Aero would hold its value better in the long run, too.

Manual, she's fairly tame, it doesn't get driven hard, although her daily commute is about 5 miles along a 30 road each way, which won't be helping.
I dunno what i was expecting tbh, just wasn't that impressed when it said 24.7mpg.
