I see all these Chevvys on sale next to the local Saab dealer but where in the market do the real ones start?

Are they not re-badged Korean cars?

Just interested, ta.

Well I don't think the Corvette is a "rebadged Korean car".

In answer to your question, 'When they aren't built in Korea'.

Corvette, Camaro, Impala, Malibu, Silverado, Suburban etc.

A Chevrolet has to have a V8 engine. Anything else is pensioner fodder.

I hated the fact that Chevrolet re-badged Daewoo's. Overnight they went from the legend of Elton John songs to embarassing small hatches.

To answer the question- anything made for (and by) the American market is a proper Chevy.

Thinks it's a lovely car (she had a Fiat Brava before)

They should have stuck the Saturn badge on the Daewoos. While everyone has heard of Chevrolet, I have never ever heard of anyone buying a Daewoo BECAUSE it is a Chevrolet. All they've done is demeaned the brand.

They've also shot themselves in the foot because at the same time a new legion of car fans is confused by Euro Corvettes and Camaros not being even remotely related to the shopping trolley range.

Indeed. Has anyone who owns a rebadged Daewoo, ever said "I've got a Chevvy"?

If so, I would like to shoot them.

Just done 450+ miles in a Chevy Matiz hire car today as the promised Ford Ka was not available. Totally awful in so many ways.

I sold my MIL a Matiz way back in 1998, which was fair enough as at launch, it wasn't too bad, and I was working for Daewoo at the time. But she's been on them ever since, she's had several, it's like chain smoking, despite them now being really old hat and lot's of better cars out there.

She turned up mid week in a brand new Chevrolet Spark, in a sort of fluorescent lemony/limey green urine metallic colour. But, she's happy.

I do remember when they were re-branded as Chevrolet, there was a Chevrolet Matiz parking up next to a Corvette, and I said something to the Matiz driver like "Call that a Chevy? Now this is a Chevy!" gesturing to the Corvette. Poor bloke gave me a blank look and didn't have a clue, and I felt like a prat.
