K-Series CRANKshaft Pulley Indexes Query.
Discussion
Never looked closely at the K-Series Crankshaft Pulley when working on my family's K-Series cars. Simply off when changing timing and other belts and back on job done scenario. Had a spare Pulley and noticed that in addition to the Timing Index @ 12 O'Clock on the outer face of the larger PolyVee drive, there's a similar index on the INNER face of the Pulley @ Half-Past Seven. Both can be clearly seen in this picture of the Pulley:~

If this additional Index is present on ALL K-Series Crankshaft Pulleys, that will be a useful guide when setting the Timing belt on these cars as it will be easier to feel for its location @ "0730 hrs" than to look for the correct index @ 12 O'Clock which is usually out of sight higher up and covered by the PolyVee belts anyway.
So my question to those more expeienced in these things. Is that additional notch @ 0730 on the Inner face present on all K-Series Crankshaft Pulleys ? If it is, I shall find that a useful guide when I next work on one of these engines.

John,
I only found the 12 o'clock one last weekend, didn't notice one at 7:30, and I was looking around the edge of the block.
That's not to say there isn't one though....
ps - outcome was a failed job. yep, you guessed it.... crankshaft end bolt! all went together again just fine though.
Cheers,
Anthony

If haven't already referenced this guy it is worth a look.http://www.dvapower.co.uk/
The one at 12 O'clock on the outside of the pulley indicates that the engine is at 90BTDC when it aligns with the embossed line at twelve O'clock on the lower cambelt cover. This si the safe position for cambelt change/head off.
The one at 7:30 is the TDC slot, when this is aligned with the TDC mark on the lower belt cover (itself at around the 10' O'clock position), then this indicates that the engine is at TDC on 1/4.
To be clear, the 90BTDC noths in on the outside surface of the large pulley, the TDC mark is in the inside rim of the large pulley.

Thanks for that. I have since learned that the notch @ 7:30 on the inner face of the pulley was used for ignition timing on earlier engines fitted with a distributor. The few K-Series I've worked on have all been later cars fitted with wasted spark coil pack ignition, year 2000 on. If it's still present on later cars it will be useful as the 12 O'Clock index on the outer face of the pulley is difficult to 'read' accurately when in the 12 O'Clock position. Useful because if the 7:30 index is in that location then the difficult to see 12 O'Clock index will also be correctly aligned.
Next time I work on a later car, I'll check to see if both those indexes are present.
