Hi,

Probably not worth the effort of posting but was involved in a road rage incident last night(Sat 27/02/11) with some psycho in a dark blue Vauxhall Astra Coupe on the M3 jct 6-ish between 7pm and 8pm, wondering what to do next?

Basically he was sitting in the third lane, had been there for a while, I was patient, hung back whilst we both made progress. After a while the road cleared up and he stayed in the third lane even though I was behind him and there were 2 empty lanes next to him. So I flashed him once, briefly - I know how this can come across but what do you do at that point?

Anyway, he moved over and I accelerated past him and away - gave him plenty of room and pulled into the middle lane, at which point he seemed to take exception with me and flashed me - then flashed me again, then put his headlights on bright for a while, then drove behind me for a good few minutes flashing his headlights. At first I thought I was telling me there was something wrong, so I slowed down expecting him to pull alongside me and gesture or something, but he too slowed down and turned on his left indicator (whilst continuing to flash me). I considered pulling over to tell him to censored off, a moment later I abandoned that thought and accelerated away - whilst considering calling the police(the motorway had become busier and there were other cars wondering why this imbecile was flashing his lights constantly).

He tried to match my speed but couldn't for whatever reason - but was still close enough that he could see me and was still flashing his lights. Anyway, eventually someone pulled out in between us and seemed to get annoyed with his tailgating so deliberately stayed in his way and held him up whilst I drove off into the distance(if that was you, thank you!)

Anyway, do you think it's worth reporting to get this plank dealt with or should I chalk it up to experience and accept that they give licenses to unstable morons?

Ta!

Why didnt you just go into the left lane and undertake him? wkers like that are obviously oblivious and I avoid flashing unless necessary

anyway i prob wouldnt bother reporting it unless I felt in danger.

I can't see you having much success especially without a number plate. Same night same motorway but going north by M25 there was some idiot who joined the M3 from the M25 and proceeded to pull all the way out to lane 3 in one move at 60 ish where I was and cutting me up. Amazingly he was annoyed when be looked in his rear view mirror and saw me just a few feet behind and proceeded to brake test me. Naturally this driver didn't move over either.

I'm sure the police would be very interested in hearing from you.

I do too, I hate being flashed and hate flashing people - it comes across as aggressive no-matter what you do. I was genuinely trying to be good and not drive like a hoon - esp. as the other half was in the car. I was also in a rental car - a diesel and after having been flashed twice by the HADECS cameras on the M1 last week, I decided to slow it down.

I wouldn't say I feel in danger, but I certainly dread to think what would have happened if there wasn't another motorist to get inbetween us - he had already followed me for 4 junctions and wasn't giving up.

Agree - and I'm not suggesting it's worth reporting to pursue the knob, but just so that there's a record in-case anything more is made of it. After all, it was fairly busy toward the end and I'm sure one of the many cars that saw him driving behind me with his headlights flashing would have noted his reg or said something to the rozzers - I know I would if I saw someone being followed.

Rather than flashing, put your right indicator on. Pretty much no-one will take offence.

"Do you think I should report him?"

I never understood this thinking. It is not as if he tried ramming you off the road. What do you think the police are going to do? Track his address via his plate and pay him a personal visit?

Knock Knock "Excuse are you mister so and so? Im here because you were driving too close to someone on the M3 and flashing your lights persistently. Turn around, your under arrest."

Excuse me for saying, but come on, grow some balls.

Perhaps if they log 10 similar calls about this guy driving aggresivley and then one they they stop him for driving aggresivley it might come in handy as intel?

I am not sure how the rozzers log complaints though and whether the info will necessarily show up if they run a numberplate check.

So you were driving in lane 3 when there was nothing in lanes 1 or 2, and had a go at someone driving in lane 3 when there was nothing in lanes 1 or 2. Okay then rolleyes. Drive in the left hand lane unless you are overtaking yes.

it annoys the bloke behind as he will invariably need to put his wipers on....

once, whilst being tailgated by a dhead along narrow wet county lanes I managed to plough through some deep muddy standing water.... his shiney little vauxhall sportscar got filthy. he backed off big time.

as for someone sitting in the 'fast' lane with the inside lane(s) free - take the 'slow' lane and undertake. or would your middle class conscience get the better of you?

In the good ol' days your flash function for the headlights was labeled "Pass"
That's what they're for. Passing lights. It was considered good practice to give someone a flash when overtaking, to draw attention to you in thier rearview mirror.
Especially on a motorcycle.
I really can't see why people get annoyed at being flashed. Ahem...so to speak. smile

Best thing to do with people like that is ignore them and pass on their left. Just like the tt I encountered on the M25 on Friday, he was in lane three of four doing about 65mph while the two lanes on his left were empty. He was totally oblivious to what he was doing as well.

So you were in lane three of four, with nothing to the left as well then? This thread is fking priceless rofl. Although to be fair, from your post, it's not clear whether or not you were behind him, or observing from the correct (left hand) lane scratchchin

Nope, I was in lane one where I should've been. Where does it say I was in lane 3?

Yeah, it's always a good idea to read peoples posts properly and ensure you understand them before making sarky comments.

I think he missed the bit about having your washer nozzles deliberately misaligned to ensure they spray the car behind instead of your windscreen...

It's no wonder the roads are such an unpleasant place to be with thinking like that... frown
