Hi guys

The college that I attend have decided to start charging for parking permits.

I've been there in total for 4 years, and only this year did they decide to start this, at a cost of £1. I actually asked why it's £1, and it's to cover the cost of the materials used (tax disc holder style permit, with hologramed paper) which I thought was utterly rediculous - atleast make some money ffs.

Problem is, I pay £2200 a year to go there, and I know its only £1 but I just really really dont want to pay it. They are threatening £35 fines, and I'm wanting to know what regulations there are with regards to this. It's having an independent security team managing the process, so do they need to follow some procedural system before fining?the only info I've had is via email and there are no actual signs anywhere, I was always under the impression that a sign needs to be visible from every parking space informing about the permit system or they couldn't fine?

If anyone could shed some light it would be appreciated - no doubt I'll pay the £1 anyway but I find it stupid, especially as it still doesn't guarantee a space!

Thanks

jamesson

You're upset about having to pay £1? Get a grip.

If you feel like you are being undercharged, give the remainder of what you think would be a reasonable price to charity.

Not really - it doesn't guarantee a space still and other businesses use the car park too. But they are not required to get a permit as they work for the businesses.

How would the security guards then now who had a college car and those who worked at local businesses?

I'd say £1 is great and at uni it was much heftier but did mean there was a space somewhere in the many private car parks they had.

Our campus charges £1 a day, £1 one off seems a good deal to me...

OP, what are you complaining about? Having to pay 100 whole English Pence to park on campus? When I was at uni our halls of residence were a good few miles off-site and there was no parking whatsoever on campus for my particularly svelte and beautiful aztec-gold Peugot 405 Estate.

Seriously, £1 and you're complaining?

I understand its probably not the cost but the principle? But for a quid you may aswell pay up and wear your parking ticket with pride..

Jesus christ, Grow a pair FFS! It's a £1 even I could scrape together that much.

Seems like a classic case of owning a car and parking it wherever is a god given right. Not one of life's luxury's if your lucky enough!

NOpe, I'm with you. I'm a total nazi when it comes to not having to pay to park, especially if you're having to shell out to go there in the first place.

What are you getting for your pound. At the very least I'd want a scurity guard making sure that the car park was free from scum and my P&J wasn't going to get stolen. In truth for that sort of outlay I don't think dancing girls and a valet would be out of the question.

How about, try parking there everyday and see how long until they STOP issuing parking fines to you.

My uni introduced charges for parking (£4 for 5hours) which I thought was a pisstake. In the remaining two years that I was there I did not pay once as I objected to it (mainly because the staff were so st so did not see why I should be paying more to get there and maintain their jobs) and luckily they couldn't clamp my car because it was too low anyway hehe

If you feel strongly enough about it, try and get the other students to reject the introduction of permits... they've protested enough recently about nothing so shouldn't be too hard to rouse their anger laugh

In that case why bother with the permit? How will anyone know whether you're a student or an employee? Seems a bit silly IMO.
