Does anyone know if these cars are remappable without any consequence? I appreciate the insurers would need to be informed, but am i correct in thinking you can remap such a car that costs £0 to tax due to its emissions?

It makes no difference to tax bands, but it will need to stick within the MOT test emission specs.

What gains do you get from remapping a Polo Bluemotion? Is it turbocharged?

Yeah, I'm sure they are. A perfect way to stick two fingers up at the 'green' types wink

As far as I'm aware it's just the standard VAG 3cyl 1.4 TDi lump so I wouldn't have thought there'd be any issues.

Apart from the "it'll be no more economical than a normal 1.4TDi polo" thing.

Seems an odd thing to do considering the whole point of the car is economy, by mapping it and reducing the mpg you may as well just have bought a cheaper, more powerful variant. Also I can't see it making much of a difference with it only being a small engine, and the gear ratio's are very long which will still hinder acceleration.

The BM has lower ride height, smaller wheels and areo kit to help increase the mpg versus the standard TDI that uses the same engine, so you could be running a more powerful car for less or similar money. That was my thinking behind my original question.

I think the throttle map has a lot to do with the economy on a Bluemotion (i.e it's more or less the opposite of what you would get with a remap)

On motorway runs (which was what I used my car for) my MPG went up after a remap.
Also it doesnt matter what size the engine is, you can still put the BHP/ Torque up, and with diesel engines being torqey it will make a big difference.
So your wrongscratchchin

Of course it is, you can't even buy non turbo diesels anymore.

There is no way in hell any remap on the Bluemotion is going to increase mpg, as the throttle mapping is completely optimised for this as standard.

The standard Bhp of the Bluemotion is 80Bhp, so you might get an extra 20% or 16Bhp (whoopee), lose economy and probably not gain much acceleration wise anyhow due to the gearing. Never mind the extra cost of insurance, warranty being void etc.

Oh and it's you're, not your.

Piffle (IMHO).

This, as with all modern cars, will be optimised for whatever rediculous theoretical driving scenario the EU dictates for "official mpg" figures. It is entirely likely that a remap would make it more efficient for the sort of driving the OP does.

For sure, with the mpg. Most diesel remaps see a slight improvement in real world situations.

I would imagine the Bluemotion would see a decent increase in power too, although I haven't managed to find any remaps on-line.

Why the hell would you want to, if you want something faster, get something with a bigger/non economically-optimised engine.

Cheap tax, and a bit more power that usual.

So VW spend hundreds of thousands creating a flagship economy range like the bluemotion with ultra high mpg, and then dodgy dave with his OBD cable programs a shed load more mpg out of the map for £50?

That's right. Probably closer to £300, though. No reason why it should be any different to other turbo diesel remaps.

The 123d remap increases bhp from 204 to around 265 and torque increases from around 300 lb/ft to 360 lb/ft - and yet still owners report better mpg also.
