Roadblock set up to catch motorists smoking in company cars
Discussion
Absolutely ridiculous - and a warning to anyone out their guilty of this pathetic crime.
Essex Police have been setting up road blocks to catch motorists who have been smoking in their company cars. And then they've been dishing out fines.
Cliche alert: It's Britain gone mad! Seriously, while there are *actual* crimes happening, plod are trying to do motorists for committing pretty victimless acts.

"Utterly pathetic, so much so that I would wager the story is inaccurate. And isn't there some sort of exemption whereby if only one person uses car they can smoke?"
Not sure - surely it's all classified as "smoking in the work place", therefore it must be pretty hard to prove you're innocent

I wonder if what actually happened is they were checking commercial signwritten vehicles, but decided to call them "Company cars" to make it sound more fascist than it actually was.
I used to drive for a scaffolders, and the smoking ban never stopped the smokers from smoking in the cabs on the way to and from site.

It never stopped me from smoking on the many long travels I have had in company vehicles. Carry Febreeze or similar, clean vehicle regularly. However, if carrying self-loading freight then I wouldn't smoke, unless they did.I feel that I would be at more of a health risk from a passengers haliotosis then a subsequent passenger would be from days old smoke residue.

Or drive with your door open.

Edit: obviously, I don't condone running over policemen with your cars and in fact support the actions of the Met police during the student riots, before any snooping journalists write a story about PHers planning to injure police officers.
