Wraps Come Off Koenigsegg Agera R

Super-Swedes reveal hardcore version of their latest hypercar

Koenigsegg has unveiled a hardcore version of the Agera supercar at the Geneva show, exactly a year after the debut of the original car, and alongside a production version of what we'll call for now the 'regular' Agera.

It's called the Koenigsegg Agera R and it is possessed of a set of vital statistics that ought to impress the most hardcore of power junkies. Courtesy of twin turbochargers, the all-aluminium 5.0-litre V8 emits an undeniably mighty 1099bhp at 6900rpm, while 738lb ft is available between 2700rpm and 6170rpm, with a peak of 885lb ft. all that poke means the Koengisegg's V8 has the highest mean cylinder pressure of any production engine, at 30 bar.

Channelling the power to the rear wheels is a specially developed Cima seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox, coupled to an electronic differential.

As is pretty much obligatory of hypercars these days, braking comes from a set of carbon-ceramic discs, which are 392mm in diameter at the front and 380mm at the rear.

The 0-62mph sprint is dealt with in just 2.9secs, while the (theoretical) top speed is a stonking 275mph, partly thanks to an adjustable rear wing that drops the Agera R's drag coefficient from 0.37cd to 0.33cd.

Other clever tricks include what Koenigsegg reckons is the world's first three-damper rear suspension (one for each side and a third 'anti-squat' device in the middle to link the two), and an optional roofbox (yes, really...).

Just looks to halfords for me. Prefer the older ones. I bet it's insane! Still, I wouldn't say no.

It's cool, but - already? Has the normal Agera even left the factory yet? I wasn't aware the customers had even received any of their cars yet and already they are making a faster one!

Even if it leaves the factory, it will probably break down within 5 mins like every other 'egg ever made.

I hope that's the world's first production car 3-damper suspension, because it's been on race cars for yonks.

Hell, I even had it fitted to the front of my 306 when it used to run arb's

30 bar pressure??? That's one monster of an engine output too!

Should prove to be a real handful on the wet roads

That roofbox might just be the coolest accessory I've heard of - what speed is it rated to?

Still my favourite supercar. I'd like them to find a prettier way to do the wheel arch vents, though thats being picky.

Good looking in a restrained way, and certainly way better looking than the willfully ugly Pagani. It does look a bit weird though with the roof box on.

Definitely got the idea from this, Jon Olssons SV.
It's an odd accessory to offer but the SV did get a huge amount of attention when it rocked up in London.... as will, I imagine, the Sheikhs in their Agera Rs. biggrin
