Selling my car, strange text request?

I am selling my MX5, advertised on here and various 5 forums.

I also stuck it up on Gumtree and have subsequently received what appears to be a slightly strange text.

The person is asking for number of previous owners, reg number and mot test number?

Is this some kind of elaborate scam I haven't heard of?

What could they use these details for which may be underhand?

Maybe I am just being paranoid, admittedly my ad is pretty comprehensive, and I guess I haven't left a lot of info unmentioned so it could be innocent enough.

Just thought i'd ask in here as if there is a scam of this nature, i'm sure PH will have heard about it.

They want to check MOT history online

Reg number and mot test number will let them check the mot history on the motinfo site.

I would call the person, and if you dont like the sound of them, dont give the info out.
