Car Hire Munich Airport?

Hi,

Does anyone know of any CHEAP car hire available from the airport?

I've tried all the usual suspects online but i seem to be getting stitched up because i need winter tyres. €50+ seems v.steep for 4 days use. That and 121rentals who come out cheapest on most of the comparision engines want to charge €11.90 a day because i'm 25.

I've heard if you ring the desk you can sometimes get a better deal, is this correct? If so does anyone know who has a desk there?

Legally they have to fit winter tyres, don't tick the box, you should get em anyway. I did from Munich last year driving to Mayrhofen in Austria

I thought in Germany they didn't have to fit them legally just if the conditions happened to be icy/snowy you had to have them. I think the law was changed in October this year.

I'm travelling to Mayrhoffen too as it happens.

I hired a car from Munich airport a few years ago, from Hertz I think.
When I arrived they didn't have snow chains for the Seat Leon I'd booked. So I asked for an upgrade and got an E Class Merc.

This was fine until we went to fit the snow chains - they'd given us chains to fit the front wheel size not the larger rear.

Oh, and be careful when hiring from Munich that you don't go into Austria. We weren't allowed to go into Austria apparently, not that it stopped us - we were heading to Italy.

I hire from Munich all the time but usually use auto-europe.co.uk

Usually the cars come from Europcar or somesuch but usually cheaper than going direct. Worth a try...

Unless doing lots of miles outside Munich I wouldn't bother with a hire car. Train airport to city ein rover fare for the S Bahn, U Bahn & buses for around 20 or so Euros. Car is a PITA in the city.
