Hi,

I'm looking at changing my wife's car (Z3 1.9) for something a little more modern, more comfortable for long trips on the motorway (we always end up taking her car for reasons I can't fathom and have given up trying to work out). Ideally it would be nice if it had some more seats too as often we end up borrowing another car or on one occassion in a french village in the middle of nowhere had both my wife and her friend in the passenger seat....

anyway... i digress... So I was thinking about an Audi TT (mk1) which the wife likes the look of or a BMW 1 series (which she thinks is ugly and quite frankly its hard to disagree)... I suspect the 1er is probaly a better drive though? Is it? Will the TT be dull in comparison to the Z3? (its basically a FWD with a funny haldex quattro that pretends to send some power to the rear wheels right?).

Are there any other cars I should be looking at? Budget is around the £6k ish mark. I know a Z4 would be one logical answer but I already have one of those and having two seems a bit silly.

Thanks!

A friend of ours had a Megane convertible and although not my personal choice, I thought it was a really good car. Full - with glass - retractable electric roof was very cool. Easy to drive and she got the best of both worlds for winter and summer. Price range car.

If you keen on something with 2 seats, Honda S2000, Porsche boxter. Id take the boxter over a TT. The problem with women buying cars is that they never pick the best one =]

I can't imagine the megane would be much fun to drive would it?

S2000 and boxster could be fun, are they within budget though? Also what are they like on the motorway, would they for a good GT. We do a lot euro trips....

A4 cab would be a good for the long distances I guess but its too big. The wife is strictly against anything much bigger than the Z3. Should have mentioned the size restriction before I guess!

Any opinions on the TT especially from anyone that has driven a Z3 or Z4 before as well?
