Was pondering the possibilities for the use of Biodiesel on the way home yesterday, how come more isn't produced to reduce the reliance on untstable regions, cartels and mad despots ?

Surely sending thousands of troops to the regions to ensure the supply is very costly, why not put more focus on growing our own so to speak, if nothing else it could be added to existing fossil fuels to make it go further ? heard somethign about Algae being used as well.

I am not aware of all the whys and wherefores so am interested in hearing your opinions.

I think more isn't produced as the price of food would rise, if you want to grow more for biofuels you have less room to grow crops for food.

Surely the potential market is huge?

I use £5/6k of diesel a month. If I could get biodiesel at any saving I would take it.

When we can get it from the sea and make a profit we will see it become real.

Dito, there's alreadu been riots in mexico when the cost of flour went up fur to switching over to gtowing crops for giodiesel and add to that the huge areas of the rain forest that are being destroyed for the same reason.
It'll never replace diesel only suppliment it at the moment.

Biodiesel will be great when it's made from algae. But I think that's in the early stages still.

Right now it's made from food crops, or in areas where they have to chop down rain forests. Which is st.
