Leon Mk1 cupra error code P0411
Discussion
Got the engine light come on a few days ago and a friend has a fault code reader and it is
P0411 Secondary air injection System incorrect flow detected.
What does that mean? I called up local seat and they have never heard of that fault code they asked where I got it from and I duly answered Vag-com to which they said still means nothing on their system and they need to do a diagnostic costing £49.20 then it would be £82 plus vat per hour investigating the problem.
Am based in Reading.
Help please

Sounds like a hose leak.
Try going through the vaccuum and turbo hoses to find a split or bad connection.
EDIT:
Doing a bit more investigation using this thing called google (amazing technology these days eh?) it's something to do with emmissions. Think it takes clean air from the air box and feeds it to the exhaust. Vaccuum hoses can split, or the pump can fail. In most cases, it's expensive.

Why don't seat recognise the fault code. I even mentioned the countless pages online about it over vw Audi seat skoda forums and it is a vagcom reader.
They just kept saying it has to have the system checked £49.99 to find the fault code. I replied we've cleared the codes though! They said under no circumstance should you do that

Is it the 1.8 T engine?
There is the secondary air injection pump located just under the bottom left side of the engine in a round bracket that’s the pump. Check around there for any holes etc, it should make a faint sound at start-up from cold.
Indecently my mum’s car used to make a funny noise in the morning and traced it back to that, the rivets had gone AWOL, took it out and replaced the rivets with a few nuts, bolts and washers. The hardest part was getting the thing out.

Have you found the air pump?
It works like this, the cat needs to be up to temp for it to work properly. To keep emission specs down, there has been electrically heated cats, and most manufacturers move them as close the the exhaust ports as possible, but they often have an aux. air pump that blows air into the exhaust when cold.
The idea is to burn the excess petrol that is injected on a cold start (ie- like the choke) inside the cat, heating the cat quicker.
What it doesn't show is the working out of how it came to that conclusion.
It maybe from the cat taking longer than expected to work properly from cold, but once warm, it seems happy enough otherwise it would store a cat efficiency code.
A cat wearing out/breaking up is a possible cause, along with the pump having problems.

The P0411 is a generic/universal power train error code, that's why the dealer doesn't recognise it. The VW specific code equivalent is 16795, the details of which are here:
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16795/P04...
In addition to the causes listed there the rivets holding the two parts of the plastic pump casing tend to break, they can be replaced with suitable sized nuts and bolts.
The pump is located at the front of the engine adjacent to the oil filter.

They wont identify that code over the phone because that means "it's free" & these dealers don't work like that.
They want you to spend £50 for them to plug it in where they will identify the problem & charge you a small fortune to tell you.
Do you not have any "specialists" near you? They are normally pretty good as my local one didn't charge me to "plug it in" to identify the problem which turned out to be a split breather hose.

These guys are VAG specialists & are suppose to be good.

Well had it fixed today part plus fitting plus a repair on the cd multichanger came in at £488. - clearly best part of £90 for vat grr
anyway it's fixed now and I have to point out the difference is clearly error code gone plus boy what a difference in power. This isn't a placebo effect either it's way faster and a much meatier sound from the exhaust.
It was part number 078906601M.
Not a nice amount to pay but the part isn't cheap. I'll report back if there is an improvement in economy but we certainly noticed a drop off for some reason which I'm guessing is this part.
