Hi All,

this is my first post on here so please be gentle with me....

i am just changing jobs and i need to get a car that has 121g/km or less.

my only criteria is that it is a nice looker, its diesel and would be ok as a family car as well.

money is not too much of an issue but looking around 140 PSI seems to be the only Diesels in the 121k/km category therefore if you can come up with a car that can be remapped and still keep it reliable if would be very much appreciated.

to give some idea an Astra or a A3 are going to be too small

thanks in advance for any help.

Is there such thing as a Bluemotion Passatt?

Seems wrong giving you a decent budget to spend on a car but it must be cheap to tax... I suppose it is more about some sort of outward eco image than what will actually work efficiently in the real world.

Not from the point of view of actually buying a car, merely from the saddo male pursuit of knowing every technical stat of every car on sale for the last ten years, is there a full fat search engine for cars specifications?

Not sure if anyone remembers Data Dad from the back pages of Top Gear magazine, where people would write in and say, "I need a car with x amount of boot space and does 0-60mph in y seconds for £14,000. What can I buy?".

As an amateur anorak, I would love to have all that info in one huge searchable database.

Any ideas? Perhaps we could save time on this type of query. Let's make one in Google Docs and let all PHers update it in a Wikipedia-stylee.

Or not.

There is actually, but I have no idea of the specifications and specifics of it.

Thats old and out of date. There where three Bluemotion versions of the B6 Passat, 1.9 TDI 105, 2.0 TDI 110 (in the link) and 1.6 TDI 105, all IIRC under 120g/ km co2.

The latest shape B7 Passat comes in Bluemotion guise with the 1.6 TDI 105, or the 2.0 TDI 140 and 170 engines come with the standard Bluemotion Technologies package bringing the CO2 levels down to 120 or below.

i think it will have to be the A4 as this comes in at 120g/km mind you when i put on all the extras that i want its circa £40k - a lot of money for a car with not a lot of power!

All the cars in the list I posted come in at or below 120g/ km co2. The 320d ED is the best buy out of that lot IMO, and can be had for about £22k via broadspeed. Add Nav and Leather and its still under £25k.

It's a no-brainer - BMW 320ED.

BIK is only 13%, which is as low as you can get for a diesel.

No point in loading up with options, as you'll just end up paying massive BIK for a crappy eco car.

You say crappy eco car, the motoring press actually rate these very highly.

Don't quite get the crappy eco car bit either - I don't think there is much of a compromise with this car at all.
