I'm looking to have a cold air intake fitted to an EP3 Type R. I've ruled out the Gruppe M, mostly down to the ridiculous cost, and I'm leaning towards the AEM V2.

I'm not mechanically minded unfortunately, but I've read about the possibility of hydrolock. Obviously it's something I don't want.

Is there a risk of this with all CAIs or are there certain manufacturers/models which are designed to avoid this? I read something about the AEM V2 being a short intake - does this help resolve the issue!?

Again, apologies for being a bit dim.

I would think the closer to the ground the intake was and the likelihood of you driving through large puddles/standing water would be the deciding factor.

Unfortunately the roads I use regularly are prone to flooding...

So, any particular model which isn't so close to the ground?

IIRC AEM makes two types of induction kit, the long arm and the short arm one.

You want the short arm one if you're afraid of hydrolocking the engine. Other option is a sealed airbox type kit rather than an open cone filter.

Probably best if you ask in the Honda section, but if you want better induction sound any short ram intake should do the job (these sit above the engine where the standard airbox would normally be, so no increase in the risk of hydrolock compared to standard). Just try and get a cold air feed to one of these if you can.

I think AEM do a short ram kit, as does Injen. The Gruppe M kit is enclosed though, so you are less likely to loose power from heat soak. Still, best ask in the Honda forums for their more experienced recommendations.

Cheers guys. Will post in the Honda forum too.

I'm only after it for the noise rather than anything else. I think the power increase is pretty tiny anyhow.
