Picture the scene: Midday on a Sunday, just getting out of bed after sleeping off a hangover, the sun is out, my Eunos I've had for 10 days is filthy (it's white!) so I decide to give it a good clean. An hour later I decide to take it for a spin so I get in it, and suddenly notice the stereo is missing? I remember my housemate telling me that he was going to let me have his stereo as it was better than the one in the car, so I thought maybe he'd started changing them and not finished it. But then I notice the glovebox is battered and hanging open, and the centre console is too. bds. I've been broken into! The centre console lock has been jammed open, the door ripped off, same for the glovebox. Nothing else stolen from the car (nothing else of value to steal).

So I spent the next few hours ringing the police, telling my housemate about it, and knocking on neighbours doors to see if they saw/heard anything the night before. Ran into a guy called Ben (hi if you're reading byebye) and had a long chat to him about cars, and his Elise. I could not work out how they managed to get in without causing any exterior damage - professionals I guess? They've done it once, they can do it again? Will my possessions ever be safe in my own car?

Later on in the evening when I was discussing it with my housemate, he goes out to have a play with the passenger door (he was the last one to lock the car) and afer discovering which way the car locks, and how stiff the handle is.. he suddenly exclaims that he didn't actually lock it the night before!! bd. What are the odds, the one night my car isn't locked, is the one night some random scum decides to try opening car doors and gets lucky!

Moral of the story: Don't let my housemate lock my car. Or do jacket potatos in the microwave (he managed to set it on fire..!)

So has anyone else had things stolen due to not locking their cars?

I look forward to the stereo your housemate buys you as a 'I'm a tool and very sorry' present.

I've had the same. There are lowlifes that go round systematically trying car doors in the hope that they find one unlocked.

Stick your finger in the zip and unzip the rear screen. It takes about 3 seconds to get into a mk1 mx5 this way.

Sometimes its quicker then getting the key out.

We've a fiesta sitting at the front of the garage for over a year, the missus tried to start it the other day and forgot to lock it again. On saturday afternoon i was looking for something in the garage and heard the local feral child on the other side of the garage door telling his mates the car was open and the click of the door being opened.
I hammered the garage door and suggested he got the fk away from my car.
I'd love to have seen his face as he was about 6 inches away from the door at the time biggrin

Unfortunately, he's very skint so can't afford to buy me one, but has given me his out of his car, which is better than the one that got nicked.. and he cooked me dinner last night biggrin

Freaky! Happened to me and some neighbours last night! No damage to car fortunately, only got away with £20 and some receipt books, (found the books in some bushes this morning). Idiots left my iphone charger and transmitter.

Looked in the forest and found my neighbours Jimmy Choo handbag and Armani jacket along with lots of her bank books but minus any credit cards. Also found a gym bag but no idea who's that is.
