Hi ,

Short version .. WR Blue WRX Wagon going .. ( hopefully ) being replaced by Outback 3.0 H6 .
Now all the 1st generation Outbacks > 03 are 2 tone ( 1 I'm looking at is red/silver ) ..
Now I was on You Tube and saw an all-black one in America ( I believe it was a special edition that we never got here ) that looked really smart and stealthy and it got me thinking ..

How about a plain black wrap? Anyone want to admit they've had 1 done? Do they look ok ? I think it would look quite smart paperbag
Or are they only for chavs and tasteless footballers' with their RR Sports to go with 22" chrome wheels and Khan Bodykits? yuck

Opinions appreciated ,
Thanks,
Steve

Matt black has had its day.

I am thinking of getting my car wrapped in the next year or two as I would like to change my car without changing my car.

As I currently have quite a sober colour, I would like to go for something quite extrovert. I might even get historic racing livery for Le Mans.

Matte black just looks dire on cars, I often see a matte black X5 driving round Newcastle and it looks awful, as though it's been hand painted.

I get the logic of protecting the bodywork (and hence the investment) on a new exotic, but to me they just look sophista-chav. Every footballer and drug dealer in North London has a matt black wrap and some chromed rims.

When I was a kid my neighbour hand painted his Escort matt black with a brush and roller (no st). My mate came round and said ‘have you seen what hand job next door is doing’ ...

I fail to see how they can trim the vinyl using scalpels and not mark the paint underneath.

Thats exactly what I always think when I've seen it done on telly. Probably when you come to sell it you don't let the buyer look too close...

By plain black do you mean matte black or a normal looking black? I read it as a normal looking black wrap.
If that is the case then I think you should go for it, it would look good. Matte black is a little outdated and 'wannabe gangster'.

I'd prefer "normal" black rather than matte black if you can get such a thing.
White looks good ( there are white Import H6 Outbacks out there to see what it'd look like) but think it would be so hard to keep clean! Plus would have to find a company that comes recommended nr Glasgow ..it'd be an expensive mistake if it went wrong.
Oh well it was just a thought.
Thanks people,
Steve

Surely it wouldn't cost much more to just pop the lower cladding plastics off and paint them body coloured if you don't like the two-tone look?

IIRC the cost to vinyl wrap an 'average' size car is between £1000 and £1500. If you're planning to keep it for a while then it might be worth the investment, I suppose...
