peugeot 308 or toyota auris

Im currently driving a company Toyota auris,and have been offered the 308 s hdi, I know its hardly an exciting choice but that's life. The one thing I did notice was that the pug only has 5 speed as opposed to the 6 in the Toyota,but I'm thinking that it might not make much difference,and surely the pug can't be any duller to drive than the Toyota,but most importantly I need to know which is the better car for long distances as 1000 miles in 3 days is a trip done every 2weeks.anyone?
My last company car was a 308 SW (estate) HDi S and it was horrid. Horribly slow and boring, and the seats gave me back ache.
Contrary to what non Peugeot owners say, mine was incredibly reliable and never missed a beat. I did 65k in about 18 months and it had no faults whatsoever. The only thing it needed was constant headlight bulbs every month.

I run a 308 as the company hack and I must say its a nice enough car, far more pleasant to drive and be in than an Auris IMO. The whole reliability thing gets a little bit boring to be honest, I work with them everyday and they're no less reliable than their rivals. Oh, and the HDi engines are really very good.

That said though, I spent 6 hours a day sat in my 308 so not sure how much driving you'll be doing?I also found the driving position very cramped. I'm 6ft 2" tall and the steering wheel was not far above my knees.
My old 308 estate was the 1.6 HDi and it's only got 89bhp so not exactly rapid. I didn't have too much trouble with overtaking etc provided you revved it well.

I had a focus before the auris,and that was fine in the comfort department,handling was great,makes the auris handling feel sloppy.I also found the driving position very cramped. I'm 6ft 2" tall and the steering wheel was not far above my knees.

Not really,as the 2 points he made were probably 2 of the main positives I can see may be better than the Toyota.I'm still not fully decided and probably will ask if I can have it a day or two and decide.roadend1981 said:

sucks :/does reliability actually matter, or will the company take care of all of that? if so then go french, if you cop the cost then jap.
(the yaris is made in france, so there is a fair chance the auris is too. maybe you've got a choice between just two french cars there!!!)
