my current commute to work involves a 30 mile each way drive, some of which is a steady 40-50, some of which is a crawl at 5 mph. It occurred to me that this might be the perfect scenario for a hybrid (that's if there ever could be one) as the batteries would be charged by the initial run, and then I could sit using the electric motors for the crawl, not only that it would be a comfortable seat to while away my time, and probably cheaper to tax than my 3.7 Cherokee.

any views, or real life experience of usage in this type of setting?

We've had one for the last three years. Cheaper to service than our Merc ML and much more reliable. Don't expect the RX to be that good on fuel. We have the 400 (last model) which returns an average of about 30 MPG. Still not bad for something that has a 0-60 time of 7.6.

The vehicle came with almost every option as standard.

Depreciation is a bit heavy over the first couple of years then seems to ease off.

Lexus are very good with their customer care; which has been the best I have ever experienced.

Would I have another? Certainly, although the new model is much more expensive than the previous incarnation.

Lexus should also lend you one for a weekend so you can get a proper feel for it.

I was browsing the classifieds earlier, and 2-3 year old specimens seem to be the better bet, as you say the sting of early deprecioation is less then, we would probably keep it for a good 5 years or so I would expect,
