hi guys,
just about to start on a dedicated fun car for track and dry weekends. i already have the car as its now sitting around doing nothing and i really like the car as i have had loads of them and think there fun to drive. the car is a rover 220 coupe n/a.
now the plan is to completely strip the car out, 2 light weight bucket seats, cage, uprated brakes, suspenion and about 250bhp turbo lump with quife lsd.
now i know they done a tomcape dunlop race series and it was good but my question what should i consider with a fwd high power light weight track car?

Dammit, I had to read the original post about three times looking for where he said his track day car was a turbo diesel! smile

Why the fk not, it's a bit of fun isn't it?

the bit is i don't want it to be crap on the track and to get bored of it after piling in money into it, the way i see it though it is a very cheap way to start trackdays and cheap to maintain. parts aer plentyful and very cheap and all my rover turbos i have had (4) have been very reliable.
just want it to be fun and although i find them fun on the road will i get board on the track?

You'll be fine - if you can drive well then you'll be quicker than a lot of people on track. If it's wet you'll have a big traction advantage too over any FE-RWD cars. I remember a soaking wet day at Anglesey when a well-driven, track-prepped Metro was running rings round gaggles of Caterhams that had to tiptoe round with very light throttles hehe (I was one of the Caterham drivers!).

It all depends on what you want. I track a mk3 golf, possibly one of the slowest GTI's with a heartstopping 120 bhp. You know what though, strip it out, coilovers, decent tyres and she is an absolute blast. Not the quickest or most lairy, but tis great fun.

You'll be fine

Well start out before spending any money, surely?

Just strip it out and go from there. Start on the cheaper stuff that makes the most difference - tyres, brakes, suspension, then if you're still having fun spend the big money on the engine conversion.

You'll have a great time with it. With my fairly limited trackday experience I've had just as much fun in FWD cars as RWD ones.
