Pathetic Motorways

If people ever do think of a motorway, they think of miles upon miles of tarmac, of great long roads that go from one end of the country to another. This isn't always the case, which is where Pathetic Motorways comes in. Here we look at the shorter, more unusual motorways in a tongue-in-cheek manner; and also examine motorway history - in other words what is, what was, and what might have been all based around those blue lines on maps.
Slightly interesting site.

I'd rather waste my time posting on a popular car based website, I don't know which is worse.

I do love their stuff about the M271 and the A329(M). Both crap motorways very dear to my heart.

I was right
West of Glasgow, leading to the Erskine Bridge across the Clyde.
Can you show me that on a map?
Certainly!
What makes this a pathetic motorway?
This is one of the shortest, narrowest and generally pathetic motorways that there is.
Tell me more...
Let's start with the length. If you come onto the M898 from the M8, the sliproads are all narrow and tight, so require great care, and a relatively low speed. By the time you straighten up, and collect the other lane, it's time for the "End of Motorway" signs and the former site of the bridge toll booths. Coming the other way off the bridge, it's about the only motorway that required a standing start to be made for all traffic.
Oh yes, and it doubles in length if you enter via the sliproads at junction 1, and head towards Greenock on the M8, compared with starting at the bridge, and heading for Glasgow
Also must have one of the most amount of accident scenes per road mile in the world.(scene of where jumped classed as scene of accident I believe)
As it takes in the Erskine Bridge and there are normally about 2 suicides a week from the bridge into the Clyde (or road below the bridge) I know this as I live next to it and see the choppers and police after each one!
