I know Top Gear is full of Crap but...

I recently found this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLN4Ea2QJ4g drag race on YouTube between (what was then) modern hot hatches and the Mk1 Golf.
What a load of rubbish, if you watch carefully you can see the Leon hit the brakes at the start and no way would the Saxo VTS get left behind like that.

Top Gear's "tests" are always proof that a lot of it is down to the driver, and if they mess up the gear changes.
I'm a big fan, but it prooves nothing (and it's all meant as tongue in cheek anyway) it's the people who argue it down the pub that something is faster than something else because Top Gear prooved it that is annoying...

Yes, I saw that link earlier - very dodgy. In a fair test, there is no way that Golf is trouncing those cars like it did. The Cupra especially should have hammered it into the dirt! It looks as though the Cupra pulled off the line, went into second gear too early and then lagged behind as it shifted up prematurely, and missed the powerband.
I can't find the link, but I remember reading, years ago, a blog post by the guy whose GTI was in the Generation game race. Apparently the whole thing was bulls
t- the new cars smoked the old cars, as you'd expect. Then they spent a while filming "filler" shots, then pieced the whole thing together to get the result they thought would be most entertaining. I'd sooner believe the Daily Mail than Top Gear.

Soon we'll have Clarkson sailing the atlantic in a pickup and May sailing it in a Herald - once again. I stopped watching it severals eries back.
Am I alone in yearning to see a serious motor programme looking at cars we all buy, testing them, pointing out their good and bad points so we can arrive at an informed decision as to what to buy? I wouldn't want a Veyron even if I won the lottery since in part I object to the ancillary costs of maintaining it, which are astronomical, and it seems pointless to have a car you can't get out of second gear for fear of losing your licence.
Everything about TG is false apart from the "star in a car", but why not show us how they learn to improve their driving with the Stig, which would be of more use to us all.

Top gear? Full of s
t? Never!
Other good ones are that it's wasn't Ben Collins driving the Renault F1 car (the actual driver slips my mind will check) and Richard Hammond didn't manage 2 short laps in the F1 car, they just pieced together individual corners and asked him to celebrate across the line.
