Chinooks: How To Get Your FF To A Ski Resort

If you were planning a launch of a new car, you probably wouldn't set part of the test route in a place only accessible by ski lifts, but that's exactly where Ferrari has chosen to launch its new V12 FF.

In order to demonstrate the 4wd Ferrari's abilities in extreme conditions, a special ice and snow track has been prepared on the top of the Plan De Corones in the Dolomites (2350 metres up). But how to get the car's up there? By CH47 Chinook, of course, courtesy of Viterbo's 1st Regiment Antares, and with the additional help of three Agusta 205 helicopters from the 4th Regiment Altair from the Italian air force in Bolzano.

Of course, there will be some 'normal' driving as well, with the action taking place on the roads of the Italian Südtirol region...

You can only imagine the scandal in this country if the RAF used one of its precious Chinooks for such a stunt.

But no such issues in Italy, of course. And quite right too. Excellent work all round!

Although there is a piece in Evo this month where Harry Metcalfe (who lives on a farm) has ordered one, and is selling his Range Rover to make way for it... so at least one nutter thinks it might be

FF is huge car. Chinnook isnt extactly small helicopter,...

reminds me of the time i went to look at some land with my old boss. He had about a month earlier taken delivery of his new Lexus LS600H. He had and was involved with horses and also had a range rover sport. I was flabbergasted as he turned into a field in his new car (try to imagine the cost of such a car new here) and proceeded to drive around in the mud and the bumps in it... i was so shocked it took me a while to question him what are you doing?? its a new car ?? to which he replied ah this is a great car, you could take this places i wouldnt even try and take the jeep !! bloody farmers !! no respect for anything :-)

yes, because the italian forces are really stretched arent they what with all their deployments anyway, i think its a great PR opportunity and the resultant pictures are great.
