So, I've had an itch to scratch on a fun car ever since I moved from my Impreza to my current 320td compact. I'm in the process of selling my business so there is a lump sum on the horizon. I've been looking at m3's and 6 series (and about a million other things depending on what time of day it is).

However, it's all taking longer than expected so the itch is getting unbearable.

So.... Today me and the misses are taking some cash to go look at an mx5 mk1 as a stop gap cheap fun car. Thanks pistonheads, I'm officially blaming you guys for this lol !! What's the betting if we get it, we end up keeping it? :-)

They are fantastic fun at speeds that wont loose you your license. They are simple and reliable and civilised when your just trying to get somewhere. When the weather is kind, roof down, good music and just smile. If owned a few good cars, Ive driven a few very fast, very capable and exotic cars. Out of all of them, the one I would want again for going about my daily business is an an mx-5. Sure, there not that quick but they make you happy.

Well thats what I think of them but other people opinions may differ.

Nothing wrong with an MX5 as a toy to tide you over until you find what you are looking.

Opinions on this?

Seems a bit of the cheap side for a mk2?

It does seem cheap. I would pay particular attention to the sills and rear arches. Otherwise 'looks' worthwhile.
