I'll be honest, I'm not an expert in the values of old 4x4s but I'd wager the dealer has more of an idea, that is why he's risking his own money on it.

If somebody is prepared to pay that much, fair play to the dealer.
So many people on PH think the dealers should only make £100 on each car and give full as new warranty for 10 years.

I can beat this,

A well known company that deals with REGistration TRANSFERS are currently marketing a numberplate for £12,000 which they bought for £750 at dvla auction last month.

Thats what all dealers on here made us to believe, ie theres no monies in them used cars and we should all be grateful someone still wants to sell us one?

No but thats besides the point. A car is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it. The price he paid is meaningless.

If a W reg Prado sells for £6k, he won't get £12k will they? If the dealer can get £12k he has it up for the right price.

Quite the contrary, the price he paid is a market price, the price he's trying to sell it for is a sheep price.

When you buy anything, do you ask the supplier how much they paid? When you go to a posh restaurant, order a dish at £20, do you then demand to know how much the dish cost?

A Vehicle dealer has brought a car that price is his business. He then sells the vehicle at a markup. Why is it an issue because there is a markup? Just because he has the vehicle up for sale at set price, doesn't mean he will sell it at that price!. If as you say the vehicle was brought at market price (Do you know how much it went through at?) and selling at sheep price, then he won't sell it. If somebody is prepared to pay that much for the vehicle then it is at the 'market' price.

Dealer asks £13k and sells for £11k, dealer makes £4.5k, buyer gets £2k off asked for price, everyone happy and dealer makes his profit. SiMPLES

Lawl if your posh restaurant wants you to pay twice as much what other posh restaurants charge in the area (ie market price) they are looking for someone who is:
a) mental
b) sheep
c) doesn't know a difference between words "buy" and "bring"

They hardly ever crop up and if the dealer knows he can turn a profit on the car eventually what is wrong with him trying to maximise that profit?

I bought a watch last week for £270, I have advertised it for sale at £900, I would be happy if I got £400 for it but am in no rush to sell and might get a bite at £900 so why not give it a go.
