Selling a car to Poland and LHD
Discussion
I have just sold my winter runabout to a very nice Polish bloke, who is driving it back home to Poland this week.
I asked him if he would just leave it on UK plates and use it over there, no skin off my nose as all of the V5 was filled. He said it would have to be converted to LHD and registered... what are the economics in that.
A 20 year old average Pajero .. for which he has just paid £1100 .. surely can't be worth more than a similar 4x4 already in Poland, or a closer LHD country.
Anyone shed any light on it, just intrigued ?

The price of used cars in Europe compared to UK are scary - see here for some Pajeros in Greece where I am: http://www.car.gr/classifieds/cars/?make=198&m...
He will not convert it to LHD - it's easier to overtake on the hard shoulder the way it is now!
Probably stay on UK plates too and he will keep it registered in UK to avoid high car taxes - for instance in Greece any car over 2000cc is now at least 1000 Euros a year to tax...

Heres how much he'd have to pay for 1991 TD Pajero in Poland. http://otomoto.pl/index.php?sect=search&sub=ca...
Assume PLN/GBP 4.6 (which will give him about GBP 1000 profit) and that it might get tweaked in terms of mileage and/or age increasing the price even further.

He won't have a choice, if he wants to get keep it on Polish plates he will have to convert it to LHD. Dino D said:

There's no car tax in Poland but it's likely it will be first registered in Germany on temporary plates. What's more it might actually be never registered in Poland and driven on bogus German plates. Legitimate German plate have two stickers (one regional the other MOT) but nobody outside of Germany knows that. Including police. I've seen cars in the UK on expired German temporary/seasonal plates without stickers and nobody seemed to be too bothered about that.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
