In need of an M5x1.0 nut

Where is the best place to buy?

Does anyone have any recommendations of where I can order a small quantity of M5 x 1.0mm pitch nuts. In truth, I am only after 1 but dont mind paying a few quid to get a few in my hands.

Have done a quick search and cannot see anywhere obvious to buy from, what with it being an oddball size.

That would be M5 coarse.

How long does it have to be? And where abouts are you?

I picked up some very odd nuts/bolts here, sure they will stick a few in the post to you.

The nut is for a bolt on my Saab 9000. There is a tapered bolt that is used on the gear linkage, and when I was swapping out the gearbox, the bolt snapped and I binned it, complete with nut. I have since bought the new tapered bolt, but it didn't come with a nut.

Have tried a "normal" M5 nut which I assume is a course thread, so 0.8mm. It does not wind on.

I measured the thread over 5 pitches and it came to pretty much exactly 5mm. The thread was only 5 pitches long, so couldn't measure it over a greater length.

This is how I came up with the M5x1.0, but now thinking about it, it could be a No.10-24 UNC thread. Probably teaching you all to suck eggs, but that No.10 is 4.8mm major diameter, and the 24 is threads per inch, which is 1.06mm pitch.

Anyone know if car manufacturers (like Saab for example!) use non metric bolts for anything???
