Convoy question

Not sure if this goes here or SP&L so mods please move if needs be.
A friend is getting married soon, and a group of us being young petrolheads who can't really afford expensive sports cars will be hiring M3s, RS4s and the like(a wedding is a very good excuse to justify hiring out car lol). Anywho, I was talking to someone about it and I was told that its against the law to be in convoy with afew cars.
Can someone shed some light on this? What do we have to do to be legal?
Pics of the cars can be provided after the wedding.

Doubt very much that it's the case, if you were racing then that's something else.
Can't understand hiring them for the wedding though, you're likely not going to have to drive far and will then spend the rest of the day getting drunk so won't be able to drive them.

Its true that we wont be driving far during the actual wedding but we have the evening to do what we like. Also we don't drink so no problems there.

Indeed - there isn't anything wrong with driving in a convoy provided you stick to the rules of the road. It's bizarre that someone told you it would be illegal, any idea where your friend got that from?
As for renting out flash motors to go to a wedding, I agree it seems rather pointless. A chap I know does it with his mates and it seems it's mostly about showing off and being seen to be driving a nice motor by the other guests, rather than the actual experience of driving it.

There is nothing magic about a convoy. Each driver remains responsible for his own vehicle and actions. If you make a nuisance of yourself by trying desperately to stay in touch with other cars in the convoy there's the risk of a NIP for "inconsiderate driving" even if no other specific offence is committed.
Inconsiderate driving is where other people are inconvenienced as a result of the manner of driving. Breach of the Highway Code is a typical example.
Penalties are fine up to £5,000 plus 3-9 points and discretionary disqualification from driving.

For alot of people it is about being seen in flash cars, but for me and atleast two of my mates its about the driving experience. I do get why people rent 'em out for the looks though because driving an expensive car certainly helps you get laid lol.
