Looking for some feedback really if anyone can help.

I filled in a quote on Adrian Flux website last night and they e-mailed it back today with a price.

Now, The price is nothing short of ridiculous, And by that I mean cheap, Very cheap.

Its an American car, 2 years newer than my current car and 3 times the Engine CC?!! And I'm under 25.

I checked all the details to make sure I hadn't put that I was a 70 year old doctor..But, Its all correct.

On the e-mail it says;

'From the details provided we can provisionally offer a price of £XXXX.XX

However, please note this price is only an estimate and should be checked by telephoning our office and speaking to one of our operators. They are available to answer any questions and may even be able to offer further discounts'

Is this the part where they double it or say 'ahhhh, But..'? or do they normally quote roughly what they say?

I know its hard to say without phoning them but I don't want to go through the whole sales pitch to find out that they want 70% more.

Thanks in advance!

Jo

As above, call them and confirm

I recently tried them for a quote on an MX5 and what they came back with was pretty crap. Even though i was only asking for 3000 miles. At least 4 random main stream insurers came back with better quotes off confused.com.

It's entirely possible, worth giving them a call to go through it. In general a yank will be much cheaper for a more powerful/faster car - ten years ago I was paying less for a 5 litre V8 Camaro than a 1.2 Nova.

Be careful, they always used to come up cheapest on comparison sites for me because they assumed I had the same amount of no claims as the amount of time I had held my licence for. This, for me, was not the case.

I see.

The form is correct and I double checked it when the quote came back, NCB..etc.

Online quote thingy:£800
Ringing up to confirm every single little detail: £2600

Apparently because the car was different (it wasn't I rechecked the details). Given the bad press they get anyway, I couldn't be bothered to follow it up. No point paying a lot of money for something which when needed doesn't come up to scratch.

Hi the only way to know for definite is to call up. The online quotes are a provisional offer based on the details that you have sent through. If any details are different it can change the quote but by the sounds of it, it should be pretty close. As mentioned above Insurance for American imported cars do tend to be cheaper to insure as there are hardly any claims on them.

Strange, I had the opposite effect with mine. 17 year old male, pug 206 1.4 getting stupid quotes of £3500 + from everyone, then they came up at £1400, phoned them up and by the end of the conversation had a few extras thrown in and the price down to £1300.

Hmm, thats not very impressive is it....

Mate who was going to Oz for 2 weeks wanted to move his car from street to my garage (in a lower risk area), and add me (older, more NCB, IAM licence), and they wouldn't even quote him..

Called up and it came down by £70. Crazy!

Whats the other insurers as i doubt i'll get it cheaper.

Put it this way, I have an 02/52 Megane Coupe 2.0 16v and its working out £180 cheaper a year to insure the Ram than the Megane?

That whole' if it sounds too good to be true' keeps ticking in my head.

Well roll with it. All details are correct. Engine size is correct. If it is all correct and the RAM is cheaper to insure than your everyday car brilliant biggrin.
