Quick MOT / TAX question...

i refused to pick up the company pool car last week from it's MOT.
the tax ran out on the 28th Feb.
i was under the impression that you could drive a non taxed car to a pre-arranged MOT, as, obviously you can't get tax without MOT.
however, once you have an MOT certificate, you can't then just drive the car. colleague said you can drive straight to and from a 'place of repair' without tax.
was i being a big jessee?!

u can drive to a pre booked mot, then u have to drive to get it taxed, or home then to taxed, stopping at the off license on the corner or waitrose for shopping will get you bum fhowever, once you have an MOT certificate, you can't then just drive the car. colleague said you can drive straight to and from a 'place of repair' without tax.

No you don't, that's a myth. You are notified 14 days before it expires and it's up to you to get it taxed before the old one expires.
You aren't going to get fined for not having one on the 13th of the month though are you? If your insurance runs out at the same time you have to wait for the cover note to come through for example.trickywoo said:

Theoretically you could get fined 1 minute past midnight on the 1st of the month after the tax has expired ! And if waiting for the cover note you have to keep it off the road and cannot use it.

you'd need to be pretty unlucky to get done for doing that!seeing as you can't get the tax without an MOT!
I think it coes down to 'reasonable' use. Sure, it's a specified offence for failing to display a valid tax disc. But there are circumstances where it can be considered ok

was exactly my thought. seems common sense but i can just imagine plod pulling you over informing you that the correct course of action is to walk/bus to the nearest town to tax the car then come back to affix.who would cover you in the event you stacked it while travelling to the mot station? MIB? wouldn't your insurers wash their hands saying you have no way to prove the car was roadworthy (no mot, even though it isn't a certificate of roadworthiness) and no tax, hence you've breached the T&C's of the contract?
anyway. through fear of causing my employers further grief, or being made 'redundant' i've picked the bloody thing up and got someone to sort the tax.
why the hell can't you get a tax disc issued with the mot certificate anyway? and why can't your reg. just be marked as tax'd to the anpr like insurance and mot now?

so as long as your cars insured you can go to a pre arranged mot and tax your car.
