I live in the centre of town and park on the street in a permit zone. Never had any trouble until today - got to my car and found this nice little modification to my bonnet.
What sort of dickless f
king son of a we and does this to someone's car? I assume it would have been a tall vehicle (lorry or similar) reversing into it and not realising they'd made contact whatsoever. How fking braindead do you have to be to not notice that you're reversing through someone's bonnet? It's cut right through the fking metal, for fk's sake.
No witnesses. No CCTV.

I feel your pain, had somebody damage my car in a car park and never found them, albeit not to that extent. But I have seen an arctic go clean through a brick wall at maybe 2 mph in reverse at the Tesco depot in Strood; he hadn't a clue he had done it. And seeing the ease atwhich a billion lbft of torque combined with 44 tons, I can believe him...

...Its horrible, you have my full sympathy, however i've been to collisions with busses and wagons before where the driver did genuinely not know he had hit something.
Even more so if its something with a trailer, they just wont feel a thing. It wont jolt them or anything.

Don't want to claim on the insurance either as I've already got a claim from last year when some nice wee chappies stole my previous car, and I really don't want two non-recoverable claims on my record. Charity van with 20 old folks being taken out for the day. Smashed into my car whilst avoiding another resulting in just over £2000 of damage. They then drove off.
Two witnesses came forward with the registration. I called the police who spoke to all parties before advising me to drop the case.
Why? Because the 20 passengers were all willing to come forward and provide witness statements that the event never happened. Said statements were admissable in court because they were paying to be there.
Insurance company wouldn't pay to fight it. The motor insurance bureau then washed it's hands of me. I was advised if I took it to court I'd lose and have to pay their fees.
I was a poor student at the time so had to let it go although I know full well who's responsible.
Oh and the copper got bored about half way through his investigation and stopped contacting me.

I have spoken to all the local businesses (shops and cafes) in terms of witnesses but no-one saw anything. CCTV or a witness is the only chance you've got of tracing it. Assuming the latter isn't forthcoming, the former may still be an option.
I've no idea what car it is, but if it's worth pursuing to get repaired get it reported and see what happens. If it's something you can get a replacement panel for easily I'd be looking to do that if it's not prohibitively expensive. One of those things unfortunately chum, I appreciate it's a massive pain in the arse and an awful thing to happen though

It's an E46 330. BMW have quoted £1000 minimum for a new bonnet, and I'm taking it to a trusted bodyshop tomorrow for a proper prognosis.I've no idea what car it is, but if it's worth pursuing to get repaired get it reported and see what happens. You would hope so in the same way you would hope the countless other accidents where people "come out of nowhere" would not happen but unfortunately, mistakes happen...The wall I see knocked down is at least 8 feet tall and about 80 feet long!!!
