Steering wheel/car judder

I'm guilty to confess that it's something I've "lived with" for a very long time, as the car has done it for at least 10 years prior to me owning and possibly more.
But at 65ish-varying speeds there's a severe steering wheel judder, dashboard judder and more worryingly recently I can see the bonnet juddering as well. So basically the whole car. Feel it through the base of the seat as well. Now, the speed and severity at which it'll do this is intermittent. It'll always do it, but sometimes it'll be barely noticeable whereas other times it'll feel dangerous going above 70. I've tended to just go a little bit slower.
Could this just be wheel balancing? I stress the part that it has been doing it for at least 10/11 years
Getting new tyres at the end of the month so don't really want to shell out on wheel balancing before, but would like to know what else it could be. Car is an Astra mk2.

Regarding those ideas though, would they not have been picked up on when changing tyres over the last decade? I remember a journey in March 2000 where I was a passenger, probably the first long journey it had done (my nan only used it around town), where it was also doing it.

Well, yeah. You would hope so. Have you ever had the alignment checked? Maybe take it to some where different... I'm struggling to imagine what else it might be, unless it's something to do with the brakes? It could be:
- Wheel out of balance. Fitters can get it wrong and do often.
- Buckled wheel
- Wear on your driveshaft splines - check gators aren't split.
- Wheel alignment
- Worn tyres
- Out of shape tyres - does the car stand for any length of time
- Worn track-rod ends
- Knackered bush on the front suspension
- Mud on the wheel / tyre - this happened to a mate.
