People's weird reactions

Driving to work this morning, usual low winter sun (or would be usual if I didn't live in Scotland). Anyway, on dual-carriageway in lane 1 with cc set at 70. As we approached a steep hill, a woman in a Volvo came past at a fair old lick, starting to pass me just as we started up the hill. The full glare of the sun was then upon us and I briefly noticed that her windscreen was filthy. Her reaction took me a little by surprise though. Obviously finding her forward view restricted, she decided to slam on her brakes and move across into the left lane as she did so. As this happened as she was alongside or just in front, I had to slam on the brakes pretty hard myself (down to 25mph). She then decided that maybe she could see (though hadn't thought to clear her screen) and floored it off back up the hill. I'm quite sure that she was oblivious to the fact that she had caused anyone else to take avoiding action, which is probably more frustrating than what actually happened. Always expect the unexpected, I guess.
Saw a simlar thing not so long ago on the A30 in Cornwall. Car couldnt see because of the sun hitting their filthy windscreen, so they slam on the anchors.
Car behind also with a filthy windscreen and therefore couldnt see the car infront braking plows straight into the back of it.
Hopefully they both have learnt to keep their washer fluid topped up.

I used to drive the M40 quite often and where it bends right at the Warwick junction this would happen all the time. The angle was just right to turn into the sun early in the morning. Nasty place for it as you have people trying to cut across 2 lanes to get to the junction at the last minute were suddenly hitting the brakes.
God-like drivers like myself (OK, at least the second time) realised where the sun was and were expecting it. Of course, it could just have been the people that have never driven that bit of road before at that time of day that hit the brakes. Hmmm...
