PH sticker etiquette

I passed a rather nice Renault Sport Clio this morning on the way to work and noticing the PH smiley on the back, gave a quick toot and a cheery wave. All I got in return was a rather dirty look before the lady concerned continued on her way.

Now my car also has a pretty obvious PH smiley on the back, which is hard to miss so where did I go wrong?

Yes it did occur to me that it wasn't her car, but the fact I waved and was grinning like an idiot should have showed I wasn't in a bad mood

I've only seen one other on the road (several parked up but no driver present). It was a barried silver Saxo, occupants all resplendent in their baseball caps. I decided against a friendly hello.

Yes, agreed. Was out in the Caterham last night and pulled up at the lights next to a very nice 430 Scuderia. I looked over and nodded, he grinned and nodded back and I thought the traffic light grand prix was on

Then he turned left and I carried straight on! To be fair I think that saved my dignity but it would have been fun nonetheless

well, like most Pistonheads members, I am of large build, have a shaven head and sometimes facial hair. No doubt they'd have been afraid of me and would've let me get on with it but I had somewhere to be.

I have sometimes wondered if you check the purchaser's garage before honouring the order?

Guessing your location from your thread in the Scotland forum, I think I've also witnessed this lovely piece of engineering. Again, I wasn't too keen on saying hi but I'm pretty sure the stickers have now been removed.

To answer the OP, the only other sticker I've seen was on a Mini in Edinburgh but he passed too quickly for me to be able to give a wee wave.
